SURVIVORS National Broadcast on POV/PBS

After many, many years in the making SURVIVORS will finally have it’s national PBS premiere under the flagship POV banner on Setpember 24, 2018. GUSH joined forces with WeOwnTV in 2016, with Sam coming on as a Producer, and the film itself being Directed by Sierra Leonean Arthur Pratt, Banker White, and Anna Fitch. Here’s a synopsis from the POV website:

“Through the eyes of Sierra Leonean filmmaker Arthur Pratt, Survivors presents an intimate portrait of his country during the Ebola outbreak, exposing the complexity of the epidemic and the sociopolitical turmoil that lies in its wake. During one of the most acute public health crises of the modern era, Survivors reveals the bureaucratic missteps that took place, as well as remarkable stories of individual bravery and the deep humanity of those caught in the middle of this unfolding crisis. A co-production of American Documentary | POV and ITVS.”

And here’s a bit more context from Director Arthur Pratt "In Ebola-affected areas, the situation on the ground was not what was actually shown to the rest of the world," says Pratt. "The rest of the world was not seeing the fact that first respondents in this situation are locals, not international workers." At the time, Pratt, who is not only a filmmaker, but a pillar in his community as well as a pastor, was seeing more and more of his friends, family and congregants experiencing life under the threat of Ebola. He and his wife were also expecting a child. It was under these circumstances that Pratt approached White about what has come to be Survivors, the first full-length feature documentary produced by the Freetown Media Center.
